Visitor guide
What visitors should know before applying.
Puerto Rico has a regulated medical cannabis program. This guide explains the essentials in plain language so you can decide whether an evaluation makes sense for you.
Who this service is for
Adults visiting Puerto Rico who have a health condition and want to be evaluated by a clinician for medical cannabis. Requesting an evaluation does not mean you are eligible — eligibility is determined through clinical review and the program’s current rules.
What to have ready
- A valid government-issued photo ID.
- Existing medical cannabis documentation from another jurisdiction, if you have any.
- Relevant medical history — records, diagnoses or a current medication list.
- Trip information, such as approximate dates and where you’ll be staying.
Support can confirm which specific documents apply to you and the appropriate route for your situation. Contact
If you already have a card from elsewhere
Some out-of-jurisdiction medical cannabis cards may be recognized in Puerto Rico, but recognition comes with conditions. There is no blanket reciprocity, and holding a card does not guarantee access to every dispensary. Check the current program rules and ask support about your specific card.
A recommendation is not a patient card
If a clinician recommends medical cannabis, that recommendation is a clinical document. It is not automatically a government-issued patient card. Any registration with Puerto Rico’s program follows its own requirements.
Important limits
- Medical cannabis in Puerto Rico is a medical program, not a tourism or recreational entitlement.
- We don’t provide guidance on traveling with cannabis by air. Follow the laws that apply to your route and destination.
- We can’t promise eligibility, approval, timelines or access to specific dispensaries.
